There have been recent reports that Cristiano Ronaldo might want to move to the MLS in 2018, which I feel would be silly, as a player of his calibre should retire at the top – not where the money is!
We’ve seen the Portuguese superstar wow audiences for longer than a decade, rightfully earning himself the title of the best player in the world on three separate occasions…. so what is this talk about a move to the MLS? Nonsense, I’d say.
Top players who move to America to play out the remainder of their careers are often seen as footballers that are hungry for that last big pay cheque – which Ronaldo won’t want to be remembered as.
However, there is one thing that the player and America do have in common? Hollywood. We know that Ronaldo loves his appearance, and always tries to look his best, but I think he would be taking it a step too far if he was to elope to the country.
There have been top players who’ve gone to ‘see out’ their careers in America, like David Beckham, Thierry Henry and Jermain Defoe, with Steven Gerrard set to move there at the end of the season.
If Ronaldo does join the MLS, personally I think it will take away from what has been an amazing career, and I believe that if he ever does head for the exit doors at Real Madrid, it will be to his former club, Manchester United.
Right now, the MLS move is all speculation, and I hope that years from now, that’s what it would’ve stayed as.
Do you believe that Ronaldo will move to the MLS?
