Contract Rebel Khune Celebrates 12 Years

Congratulations Itumeleng Khune on your 12 years spent at Kaizer Chiefs. It feels like almost yesterday when we were waiting to see you burst onto the scene, and now you have played your way into the legend’s book at the club.

Since 2003 you have raked in a massive 16 individual awards for yourself as well as a total of 11 pieces of silverware with the club too.

It has been a dozen years of growth; fame, success and fortune for Spider Kid, and one that has seen Khune rise to become the club’s leader and captain.

To say that he has won the admiration of the Khosi fans is an understatement; he has got the admiration of neutrals around Mzansi too!

This 12-year relationship with the club has been one that almost seemed unwavering and unbreakable, and, even now, some of us fans still hold hope that the affinity between Khune and Chiefs will not end.

Let’s be honest, many of the Khosi faithful fear that Khune will land up packing his bags out of Naturena come the end of the season.

With no signature yet to be secured on a new and improved deal with the club, the whole situation has left us wondering why Khune has not yet secured his future at the club?

Earlier today, Khune took to Instagram to celebrate his 12 years spent at Naturena, before offering the biggest hint over a possible stay…

The words ‘12 years’ was splashed across his picture, with the subtext saying: ‘And counting… Kaizer Chiefs.’

This could very well suggest that he and Chiefs are close to finalizing a deal but what we will never know is why it has taken so long….

Why was there ever this so-called ‘contract dispute’ to begin with? If both parties are happy with each other, then why was there ever been a problem?

One thing is for sure, we will embrace this hint with both hands and, as the Khosi family, we will be hoping that in another 12 years we can be celebrating his long career and potential retirement at the age of 39.

Khosi fans, leave your words of congratulations for Khune…
