News over Stuart Baxter’s future is increasingly swaying in the direction of him leaving Naturena, according to reports across media platforms, but who will succeed him if this is the case?
Today, I take a look at which coaches are best suited to possibly replacing Baxter at the Village next season.
The Maritzburg United tactician has been coaching smaller clubs for too long now and it is time for him to make the step up to the Big Three. Chiefs are a club that would suit him best, given his outlook on life and the club’s philosophy - as well as the style of play. Komphela has long been rumoured as a target of Chiefs, having previously been linked with the Glamour Boys.
The Polokwane City coach is famous for the passing game he implements in his teams, and that could very well be a factor that may attract Chiefs in enquiring about his services should they find themselves without a coach. The Serbian had a brief stint at Chiefs back in 2007, but with eight more years of experience under his belt, he is probably more suited to take the job now.
The tactician is a master of the PSL, as he famously enjoyed success with SuperSport United. With Wits, Hunt has done wonders with a limited budget and could very well be suited to take over Chiefs should they look for a local coach. It is still surprising that, to this day, Hunt has not coached a team from the Big Three. His time may be now…
Simply put, Tovey is a Chiefs legend. It would be rare for any fan to not want him to head up Chiefs, and Tovey is perfectly equipped to do the duty too. The 52-year-old has managed Sundowns, AmaZulu, Hellenic, Black Aces and Thanda Royal Zulu, while today he heads up the coaching and scouting department at the Castle SuperStars Academy.
Currently the assistant coach to Baxter, Doc has seen his coaching skills grow while working under the Englishman. He has been linked with the full-time role for a few months now, as it seems that Baxter has been nurturing him to head up his own team one day.
Which coach can you see taking over?
