With Manchester City's Kyle Walker putting on the gloves as a makeshift goalkeeper on Wednesday night, we throw it back to when Orlando Pirates defender Happy Jele became a shot-stopper. Check it out!
In what was an exciting 1-1 draw between Atalanta and City in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, social media was left abuzz when right-back Kyle Walker was forced to take his place between the sticks for the Citizens.
With Ederson taken off at half-time as a precaution, reserve 'keeper Claudio Bravo was summoned, but he later received a red car. With no other goalkeeper on the bench, Pep Guardiola put Walker in goal, and he managed to keep the Italians at bay for the rest of the tie.
That being said, Pirates faced a similar situation in an Absa Premiership clash in 2017, when Jackson Mabokgwane was sent off for handling the ball outside of his area. With three substitutes already made at the time, Jele showcased his leadership qualities as he put on the gloves for the remainder of the game.
