Injuries are part and parcel of the game, but sometimes you get a few that are self-inflicted. The Fan Park Crew takes a look at some of the silliest injuries to have happened in football.
Santiago Canizares
Former Valencia goalkeeper was selected to represent Spain at the 2002 World Cup, but in the build up to the tournament he dropped an aftershave bottle onto his toe and injured a tendon, which kept him out of the tournament. To make matters worse, he lost his place to Iker Casillas and we now know how that story ends.
Rio Ferdinand
The former England and Manchester United defender suffered and injury while playing the video game Pro Evolution Soccer. Ferdinand was resting his leg on a coffee table for too long, while playing the game and managed to sprain a tendon in his knee.
Darius Vassell
Darius Vassell was not the most well-known striker to ever play for Manchester City, but did manage to injure himself in a bizarre manner. Vassell had a blood blister under his toe and he decided to use a drill to dispose of it…
Paulo Diogo
The Swiss midfielder suffered a nasty injury after celebrating a goal with the fans, after he set it up. Diogo decided to jump on the metal fencing, catching his wedding ring on the fence and tearing off half of his finger. He was also booked by the referee for 'excessive celebrations' a little later.
Alessandro Nesta
The Milan Legend has had a few injuries in his lifetime, but this is one that he should be embarrassed about. Nesta ruptured one of the tendons in his left thumb after playing PlayStation all night. He was out for a month and surgery was required.
