The story

As one of the pioneers of the local football fashion scene, Teko Modise has encouraged people to develop their own unique approach to their personal style.

"Dona" joined a round table conversation with Springboks rugby star, Makazole Mapimpi, Proteas cricketer Wayne Parnell and presenter Nqobile Khwezi to discuss the world of fashion and sport, with host Themba Boyi on "SuperSport Unplugged."

Modise brought a fashion crisis that he's noticing in the local scene and how individuality and comfort should be embraced more.

"I think the biggest issue we're facing is 'knowing yourself'. Lucky are those who are able to understand who they are because a lot of people are struggling to do that. That's why you find so many similarities everywhere because people are just copying each other, they don't know who they are," noted Modise on the show.

"What Allen Iverson changed, is that he brought cornrows and tattoos to sport, he changed the whole complexion... he's the first guy to merge music and sport, he was criticised for it. But now in hindsight, everyone wants to look like Iverson in the NBA.

"When you become the first to do something, you're going to be criticised, but once you own it, everyone that comes after you will be able to copy you and transcend it into something else," shared Modise, who added, "Once you find who you are, once you find your style, listen, just do it."
