The story

Former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould reflected on his successful career at both clubs, where he got candid about his professional football highs and lows.

Gould is rightfully regarded as a modern PSL legend, having won the league title on four occasions with Matsatsantsa and the Glamour Boys and proudly earned 30 caps for Bafana Bafana during the height of his career.

The 41-year-old sat down with his former teammate, Cape Town Spurs midfield veteran, Michael Morton's podcast, to chat about his professional football journey, starting from his Jomo Cosmos days to his peak at the aforementioned clubs.

Among the quickfire questions Morton asked Gould, the legendary centre back revealed that his first league title with SuperSport, which came during the 2008/09 season, was the most special moment of his 20-year-long career.

In terms of regrets, Gould mentioned that he should have been more uncompromising with his wishes as a player, especially when it came to his dream of playing overseas.

"Not being stubborn enough... I think when I got the opportunity to go overseas I should have been more stern and be like, 'Na, I'm not coming back, I want to stay in Europe,'" shared the no-nonsense defender.

"Crystal Palace, I went there for like three months. Everything, the coach was happy but transfer fee was the hold up," noted Gould, who added:

"That for me, was a slight regret, it was an eye opener for myself. I stand to be corrected but I think Bongs [Bongani Khumalo] was already gone [moved to Tottenham Hotspur from SuperSport], Kagisho Dikgacoi was playing at Crystal Palace. That's the time I had an opportunity to go that side.

"I think I just needed to be more stubborn and say, 'Guys, I'm not coming back, do what you want to but I'm staying here,'" reflected Gould.
