Shinji Kagawa made a dream return to Dortmund with his second debut against Freiburg this weekend by scoring a goal and setting up another.
The Japanese international returned to our club in a £6.3 million move after a terrible two-year spell at the Red Devils.
Jurgen Klopp spoke about what Sir Alex Ferguson had to say when the two met in Nyon for UEFA's annual managers' conference. Ferguson admitted that he is 'in love' with the Japanese and that United didn't manage him well.
Sir Alex is spot on when he says that Kagawa was not managed well.
Kagawa only managed six goals in 38 Premier League appearances, of which most were off the bench. In comparison, he scored 21 times during his first spell at Dortmund in 49 appearances, where he was a key player in back-to-back conquests in the Bundesliga.
So what was the difference?
It's pretty obvious... United never played him in his preffered position as a central attacking midfielder. This is where the 25-year-old thrives. Instead, he had to make room for Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney and was played out wide, where he can play, but is not nearly as effective.
So, effectively, he wasted two years of his career in his move to England. But thankfully, he's back now and we can look forward to him creating many goals for our club and scoring a few as well.
Will Kagawa lead Dortmund to the title again?
