With Itumeleng Khune showcasing his free-kick abilities in one of Bafana Bafana's recent training sessions, we took a look at some goalkeepers who have scored in games. Can you guess some of the names?
Peter Schmeichel – Manchester United vs Rotor Volgograd
The big man from Denmark is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers of all time and used his presence to score one of two goals for United in a Europa League clash. In need of two goals to go through to the next round, Schmeichel pulled one back late on in the game following a pin-point corner from Ryan Giggs.
Rene Higuita – Atletico Nacional vs River Plate
The Colombian is known to be one of the most eccentric footballers the game has ever seen, and often took free-kicks for club side Atletico Nacional in the late 1980s. The man who pulled of the famous "scorpion kick" save scored an inch-perfect free-kick against Argentine giants River Plate.
Tim Howard – Everton vs Bolton Wanderers
The man from the US scored one of the more memorable goalkeeper goals. In a match against Bolton Wanderers for Everton, Howard lofted the ball over much of the field of play, which was then pushed on by gushing winds, before a huge skip off the deck helped the ball sail into the back of the opposition stopper's net.
Jose Luis Chilavert – Velez Sarsfield vs River Plate
River Plate must be sick of the sight of goalkeepers scoring against them, and in this case, Paraguayan shot-stopper Chilavert netted one of his 60 career strikers against the Argentines.
Jimmy Glass – Carlisle United vs Plymouth Argyle
Facing relegation from Football League One at the time, Carlisle were in need of a win, and a single goal, on the last day of the season to stay in the division. With seconds on the clock, Glass ran up for a corner and volleyed the ball home after the Plymouth shot-stopper parried the ball into his path.
