After it was reported that Mamelodi Sundowns were close to sealing the deal for striker Jose Ali Meza, the Chloorkop team finally announced the Venezuelan striker as one of theirs earlier this week. What do the fans think of the deal, though?
Despite being unknown to most South African football fans, it can be said that the signing of the Venezuelan was very much welcomed by the Masandawana faithful.
Following the capture of Uruguayan Gaston Sirino last season, who too was largely unknown at the time of his arrival, Downs fans seem to have put much faith in the club's South American scouting network.
Meza is a left-footed striker with a keen eye for goal and movement in the final third of the pitch. In the 2016/17 season, the attacker managed to score 24 goals in 53 appearances for Oriente Petrolero in the Bolivian top flight.
In 2018, Meza managed to get on the scoresheet eight times in 12 appearances.
