Brazil's Famous Maracana Stadium Left In Ruins

Brazil's Famous Maracana Stadium Left In Ruins

Brazil's famous Maracana stadium has been left in a shocking state since the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Rio Olympic Games – check out what the stadium looks like today!

Click through the gallery above to see some images of the legendary stadium in its current state.

The iconic ground is considered to be one of football's greatest arenas, but after many upgrades over recent years, it has been heavily neglected by the local council.

The stadium, which cost about £500 million (R8.3 billion) to redevelop, is in such a bad state none of the professional teams in Rio de Janeiro play there.

A lot of looting has taken place at the arena in recent months, and it's been reported that there are more than 7 000 seats missing, while the catering areas have apparently been stripped bare too.

Are you shocked at the current state of the historic ground?
