Sundowns Coach Breaks Silence On Suarez's Future

Sundowns Coach Breaks Silence On Suarez's Future

With Lucas Suarez performing well on loan at Mamelodi Sundowns, head coach Miguel Cardoso has opened up on his wishes for the player beyond this season.

The left-sided centre back from Argentina joined the reigning champions from CA Talleres before the close of the January transfer window and has settled in well at the club, making eight appearances thus far.

The 29-year-old, who came on as a substitute as Sundowns played out to a 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows last night, has certainly made an impression in a short space of time and Cardoso has admitted that he is hoping that a deal is possible. The Siya crew has already reported recently how Sundowns are interested in keeping the defender and that there's a good chance of that happening.

"It's a question of administration, of Mr Flemming Berg and the chairman (Tlhopie Motsepe). He is a player that is showing his value. We trust him like all the others. Good players are players you'd like to keep. Let's hope it's a business that is possible. Let's hope so," Cardoso told media after the clash against Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammersdale, KZN.

Keeping Suarez would give the player an opportunity to play at the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA later this year. The competition will give scouts a chance to have a look at Sundowns' players and the 29-year-old would want to show his quality in case there are clubs interested in his services.

Sundowns have Nedbank Cup action lined up this weekend, against a club they beat recently in the league. The Tshwane giants take on Sekhukhune United in the quarter-finals at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, close to three weeks after beating the same side 4-2 in the league.
