Khune Disagrees With Motaung: Chiefs Not 'Cooking'

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has weighed in on comments made by the club's Football Manager Bobby Motaung after their 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Friday.

Motaung had expressed his belief that Chiefs are on the right track and are "cooking" under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, suggesting that the club is making progress.

In an imprompt interview with SuperSport, Motaung expressed his delight with Chiefs' building process.

"It's a long journey, we're not there yet but we are cooking it. Trust the process, it's a journey, give it patience and time. To build it takes time, it's not an overnight success. It's a building process, we are there and the league is not over yet," he said.

However, Khune, who holds Motaung in high regard, disagreed with his assessment, citing the club's inconsistency as a key issue.

Khune, who views Motaung as a father figure, pointed out that while Chiefs have shown glimpses of quality, their overall performances have lacked consistency. Of the 17 matches Chiefs have played this season, they have won seven, drawn four, and lost six.

Khune emphasized that this inconsistency is a significant concern for the team and something that needs to be addressed for the club to reach its full potential.

"'Bob Steak' is like a father to me - but I don't agree with his statements," Khune told the Siya Crew.

"Chiefs haven't been convincing this season. They are playing in patches and obviously, everyone expects Kaizer Chiefs to be the most consistent team. And the fact that they win one, lose one and they draw one, they win one, that's not consistency."

Khune went on to stress the importance of finding a formula that works for the team and sticking to it. He believes that the coaching staff and players must focus on improving the areas that have shown positive results while addressing the inconsistencies.

"There's something that they need to go back and check. What is it that works for the team? What is it that doesn't work for the team and continue improving on what's been working for the team. Consistency is what is needed. That's all I can say about Kaizer Chiefs," Khune concluded.
