The story

AmaZulu FC suffered their heaviest defeat of the season on Thursday evening, co-coach Arthur Zwane issued an apology to Usuthu's fans.

The Durban-based outfit suffered 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Stellenbosch in front of the buoyant supporters at King Zwelithini Stadium on Thursday night.

The humiliating home defeat was the heaviest for AmaZulu in almost a decade, according to SuperSport TV and left the side with one point from their last four home games, seeing them slip down to tenth place in the league standings.

"It pains me deeply that fans attend matches in their numbers to support the team, especially at home where we're meant to perform well, only for us to perform the way we have in the last few games until today. I distressed me quite a bit," said Zwane to the media in the post-match press conference.

"As a coach, I would like to apologies to the fans. Why am I apologising? Because they [fans] support us regardless of how difficult the situation might be, the come through to sing and show their love for the club. This is not the way we should thank them, we need to thank them by winning matches.

"So, I hope that going forward, things will be better than what we witnessed today," he added.

AmaZulu will have an opportunity to repay the faith of their supporters next week by hosting amateurs Mighty Eagles in first round of the Nedbank Cup and their next league game against SuperSport United at home next Saturday.
