The story

Orlando Pirates' hopes of topping the Betway Premiership table took a significant blow with a 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday night.

Attacking midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi's penalty miss in the second half proved costly, as the Buccaneers remain in second place on the log, three points behind leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates had a host of glorious opportunities to break the deadlock in the first stanza and continued to press for the opener and after the break, they were afforded a golden opportunity in the 70th minute when Tshegofatso Nyama was penalised for blocking Maswanganyi in the box.

Tito's penalty attempt struck the upright and landed safely into Darren Keet's hands. Just four minutes later, Bucs were punished when Prins Tijueza set up Darwin Gonzalez, for a deflected effort to give City a 1-0 lead, which they held onto until the final whistle.\

After the final whistle went, a tearful Tito, who's yet to score or grab an assist in the league this season, was consoled by teammates.
