Chiefs' Plan B If Appollis Doesn't Sign

Chiefs' Plan B If Appollis Doesn't Sign

Kaizer Chiefs had already made it clear that they aim to sign at least a winger and a striker during the January transfer window, so the Siya crew now takes a look at the latest developments.

With Polokwane City's Oswin Appollis reportedly their primary target in the wide forward position, Siya sources have indicated that Chiefs have a contingency plan to pursue AmaZulu FC winger Tshepang Moremi.

This is if they are unable to secure Bafana Bafana star Appollis who had even inspired Polokwane to beat Amakhosi in PSL action on Sunday.

Insiders at the club have added that Chiefs have inquired about Moremi and are preparing a proposal as a backup option.

"Things are looking tighter and tighter for Chiefs to sign Appollis mainly in January and that's when they need him. So, club management and the technical team have looked at AmaZulu FC winger Tshepang Moremi as one that could be signed and he fits the bill if they can't get Appollis," said the Siya source.

"You know they were interested in him and inquired about him and now they would like to make him a priority if they can't sign Appollis. They are working on both fronts at the moment so that they are not caught off guard if they can't get Appollis," the source added.

Additionally, a second insider stated that Polokwane City are understood to be exploring overseas opportunities for their prized asset, Appollis, which potentially diminishes the likelihood of his move to the Glamour Boys.

"They are believed to have had inquiries from North Africa as well as Europe and that's apparently where they are looking at. That move would make better business sense than selling him locally. That's why Chiefs are looking at a proper replacement signing and AmaZulu's Tshepang Moremi is one such player who can fill the gap in the wings they are looking at. It will all depend on Appollis' stay or move," the second source told the Siya crew.

This season, Moremi has already appeared consistently in Betway Premiership games for AmaZulu, after an excellent 2023-2024 campaign.

Attempts to contact Chiefs for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publishing this story.

As Amakhosi navigate the complexities of the transfer market, their strategic approach to securing key players reflects their commitment to strengthening their squad. Whether targeting Appollis or preparing a fallback plan with Moremi, Amakhosi are focused on reinforcing their line-up for a more competitive edge.
