The football world is in mourning after the tragic passing of George Baldock, a player best known for his impressive stint at Sheffield United.

The right-back, who had recently joined Panathinaikos in Greece, was found unresponsive in a pool at his home in Glyfada, a suburb of Athens.

At just 31 years old, Baldock's untimely death has sent shockwaves through the football community, leaving fans and teammates heartbroken.

Emergency services responded quickly on Wednesday, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to revive the defender, according to Marca

While the exact cause of his death is still under investigation, authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.

The outpouring of grief has been swift, with Sheffield United and Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire, who played with Baldock earlier in his career, leading the tributes.

"Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Baldock. He was a beloved figure both on and off the pitch," the club said in a statement.

Maguire, meanwhile, shared an image of Baldock on his Instagram page accompanied by the caption "RIP".
