Four-Year Doping Ban Requested For African Star

The World Anti-Doping Agency is calling for an African star to be banned for four years.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has officially requested that a top African star face a four-year ban after initially testing positive for prohibited substances earlier this year.

WADA has officially filed an appeal against the decision to lift Pyramids FC star Ramadan Sobhi's recent suspension, which he received after he tested positive for a banned substance during a doping test in March.

The 27-year-old was suspended for approximately three months before his appeal on the initial verdict was successful, and he was cleared to return to play football again shortly after.

According to KingFut, since donning the Pyramids jersey following his return from suspension, the Cairo native has scored five goals and provided three assists in 26 matches.

WADA is, however, now challenging the Egyptian Anti-Doping Agency's decision to reinstate Sobhi, calling for the former Stoke City attacker to serve a four-year suspension.

Sobhi's legal representative, Hany Zahran, has acknowledged that WADA's appeal was anticipated, although the same report suggests that Zahran does not expect the appeal to affect the Egypt international's current eligibility to play.

Sobhi recently kicked off the 2024/25 campaign with his Pyramids teammates against APR FC Kigali in the first leg of their second preliminary round CAF Champions League clash, and will likely play in the second leg this coming weekend as he awaits a definitive verdict on his case.
