African Giants Respond To Shock Resignation After Stellies Loss

One of Africa's most historic teams has made a decision on their manager who decided to resign immediately after their CAF Confederation Cup loss to Stellenbosch FC.

Last weekend was an eventful one for Congolese outfit AS Vita.

Ahead of the central African side's first leg of their second preliminary round tie against Stellies in the CAF Confederation Cup, their preparations were hugely jeopardised when the team only arrived in South Africa at 04:00 on matchday due to visa issues the club encountered.

The Black Dolphins would go on to lose 2-0 to Steve Barker's charges at Cape Town Stadium, but the controversy did not end there.

After the match, Vita head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou announced that he was resigning, effective immediately, citing arriving on South African soil on matchday as the defining factor in his shock decision to leave the club.

This means the Kinshasa-based club will have a new head coach when they face the Maroons in the second leg of their continental clash this weekend.

The Linafoot side have released a statement confirming they have accepted the Moroccan tactician's resignation, and that they are now in discussions with the 45-year-old regarding finances to ensure an amicable parting of ways.

"AS Vita Club officially acknowledges the resignation of its head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou," the press release reads.

"The Vita Club Sports Association, through its Co-ordinating President, takes note of the resignation of its head coach Abdeslam, after a statement made at the press conference after the match against Stellenbosch FC in South Africa on Friday, September 13, 2024.
