Three Clubs In Tug Of War For Ox?

Three Clubs In Tug Of War For Ox?

With news coming out of Kaizer Chiefs indicating that the club is looking at loaning out midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa, as previously reported by Soccer Laduma, now teams have already shown interest in taking him on board.

Siya sources close to Chiefs have indicated that there are three clubs interested in Ox's signature, including AmaZulu, Richards Bay, and his former team Stellenbosch FC.

The sources added that KZN-based side Usuthu are looking at strengthening their defensive midfield department and see Mthethwa as a suitable candidate too.

"There are other clubs which had initially shown interest in Ox (Sibongiseni Mthethwa) but now the club that has inquired about his services to get him on loan is believed to be AmaZulu. From the club's point of view, it's not official yet but they don't have a problem if a team is looking at getting him on loan," said the Siya source.

"So it will all depend on what AmaZulu are willing to offer him as a player and then once they agree, if given the chance to talk to him, then the rest will follow between the clubs. But yes, it's true AmaZulu have inquired about him. But apart from AmaZulu there are two other clubs which have shown interest as well," the source added.

A second source stated that with new Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi preferring to use either the recent arrival Inacio Miguel, or other players such as Samkelo Zwane, Edson Castillo, or Yusuf Maart in the holding midfield position, the club is believed to have decided to loan former Bafana Bafana midfielder Mthethwa out this season.

"Yes, there is interest from different clubs after they heard that Chiefs want to loan him out. His place will be highly competitive. You know there is Edson Castillo, Samkelo Zwane, Yusuf Maart and the return of Njabulo Blom as well, and they want to give him the chance to play more regularly somewhere and at the moment it seems the team that is really interested is AmaZulu. Chiefs want to finalise their 2024/25 squad by at least next week so something could happen soon," a second source stated.

The 29-year-old, who joined Amakhosi just days before the 2023/24 transfer deadline in September 2023, played many games for the Glamour Boys last season.

Soccer Laduma contacted both Chiefs and AmaZulu FC for comment, but there was no response from either club at the time of preparing this story.

Meanwhile, when contacted for comment, his agent Teboho Moloi of TM Scouts confirmed interest from the other two clubs but added that he is not aware of AmaZulu's interest.

"I haven't heard of AmaZulu. They wanted him before he went to Chiefs. I only know of Richards Bay and Stellies who are really interested in him. Stellies are leading so far," Moloi told the Siya crew.

Any decision to loan out Mthethwa may be driven by the need to provide him with more game time and to balance the squad. With multiple clubs showing interest, it remains to be seen where Mthethwa will end up for the 2024/25 season.
