On Thursday evening, Davids will take charge of his first official match as the head coach of the Reds of Msimbazi, and his introduction to Tanzanian football will be the biggest rivalry in the nation as they are poised to take on Yanga in the semi-finals of the Community Shield.
While Young Africans managed to extend their record for the most Tanzanian Premier League championships to 30 in the last campaign, Simba finished 11 points behind their bitter foes in third position.
En route to capturing their latest league title, Gamondi and his charges inflicted 5-1 and 2-1 defeats on Simba, but the Argentine tactician is not taking the latest iteration of Simba under Davids lightly.

"Simba have a good team, and you cannot underestimate them based on last season's results," he said in a pre-match press conference, as per The Citizen.
"We also lost on penalties in the Community Shield final match held in Tanga. In the encounter against Red Arrows, I managed to assess my players on how they follow my instructions, and the result was not my target.
"I have seen Simba facing APR and playing well. They have a good team with good players."

While Gamondi is yet to face a South African tactician during his pre-season planning, the Olavarria native did face two Premier Soccer League teams in TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs in his preparation of the 2024/25 season, when Yanga beat the Mpumalanga-based side 1-0 before thumping the Soweto giants 4-0.
