UCL: Real Madrid Leave Star At Home For Final

UCL: Real Madrid Leave Star At Home For Final

Real Madrid have reportedly had to leave a key player behind for their trip to England ahead of their UEFA Champions League final.

Real Madrid have reportedly had to leave a player at home ahead of their trip to England for their UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday amid a significant scare.

Reports suggest that the Spanish giants have had to leave Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin behind as they prepare to travel to London.

The shot-stopper, who has played eight times in the Champions League this season, has reportedly contracted the flu and is now unlikely to travel with his teammates to avoid spreading his illness.

This is according to COPE journalist Miguel Angel Diaz, who says the 25-year-old could still join his colleagues in England before the final.

Ahead of the match, questions surrounded which goalkeeper manager Carlo Ancelotti would pick for his starting XI after Thibaut Courtois' recent return from injury.

The Belgian has missed the majority of the 2023/24 campaign, but has started four of Real's past five games in LALIGA, keeping four clean sheets.

Lunin, meanwhile, last appeared for Los Blancos on 19 May, in a 4-4 draw with Villarreal.

While reports have suggested Ancelotti was leaning towards selecting Courtois, his latest comments on the matter did not reveal too much in terms of his thinking ahead of the final.

"It's no big deal: one of them plays and the other's on the bench. Look, it's actually a tough decision because Lunin deserves to play for lots of reasons as does Courtois, because he's the best in the world," he said.
