Chiefs Honour Khune As Top 8 Hopes Took A Dent

Kaizer Chiefs were able to hold on to eighth spot on the DStv Premiership table despite dropping points against Polokwane City.

Cavin Johnson gave a re-call to Edson Castilo in the middle of the mark, while Given Msimango made his return to the defence after serving a suspension.

The Soweto giants had their fate in their own hands coming into the clash, but they were level on points with Rise and Shine, who have only won of their last five league encounters.

Before the clash got underway, veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was honoured in front of the supporters at the FNB Stadium as he is set to leave the club when his contract expires.

The first half proved to be a cagey for the home side, who were desperate to get back on the winning trail, but they struggled to carve out chances.

Johnson was forced to a change midway through the first half as Ashley du Preez was forced off with an injury and replaced Happy Mashiane on the left flank.

The second half continued in similar fashion to the first, with the first chance of the stanza falling to Polokwane but Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma came out on top with the save.

Johnson responded with a double change for the final 25 minutes as Mfundo Vilakazi and Sibusiso Mthethwa were introduced, with Ranga Chivaviro and Castillo dropping to the bench.

With the game still evening poised at 0-0, the home side decided to introduce Khune for what will be his final appearance for the club as he came on for Bruce Bvuma for the final 15 minutes.

Neither side were able to find the breakthrough in the closing stages in front of a small crowd at the FNB Stadium.

Chiefs can clinch a top eight spot with in their final game of the season, while Rise and Shine remain in the hunt.
