Real President 'Blocked' Kane Move For Mbappe

Real Madrid reportedly opted against signing Harry Kane in favour of waiting for Kylian Mbappe to become available.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly decided against signing Harry Kane at the beginning of the season in order to wait for Kylian Mbappe to become available.

On Tuesday night, Los Blancos and Bayern Munich will renew their rivalry on European club football's biggest stage when they meet at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Champions League.

A threat the LALIGA giants will have to be wary of is striker Harry Kane.

The Englishman has been in sublime form since signing for Die Roten at the beginning of the season, having scored 42 goals and provided 13 assists in 42 matches in all competitions for the Bundesliga juggernauts.

While he may be banging in the goals in Bavaria, though, had it not been for Perez, he might have been doing so at the Santiago Bernabeu instead.

According to Relevo, once Kane became available on the market prior to the season's commencement, head coach Carlo Ancelotti advocated for his signing after Karim Benzema decided against extending his stay in Madrid and made the move to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

It is said the chiefs at Valdebebas deliberated this suggestion, but in the end, Perez vetoed it, deciding instead to go the entire 2023/24 campaign without a traditional striker in order to wait for Mbappe to sign on a free at the end of this season.

This big call seems to have worked in the Spanish executive's favour, with Jude Bellingham's early prolific form setting the tone for Real to be competitive domestically and on the continent this season.

The Bondy native's arrival in Madrid now appears to be a formality, with his current contract at Paris Saint-Germain expiring in June.
