Ex-Zamalek Boss: Al Ahly Made Mosimane's Name Bigger

A former Zamalek manager has claimed that Al Ahly is the reason why Pitso Mosimane's name is as big as it is today.

The Kagiso native joined the Club of the Century in October 2020, and became an instant success with the Ahly faithful upon his arrival in the Egyptian capital as he helped the team end a seven-year wait for a CAF Champions League trophy a month after being appointed to the role.

He went on to add another Champions League title, two CAF Super Cups, an Egyptian Premier League trophy and an Egyptian Cup to his cabinet before leaving the Egyptian giants.

For all he accomplished when he was in Cairo, Mosimane had already achieved tremendous success in South Africa with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 59-year-old guided Masandawana to their first major African title in 2016, five league championships and four domestic cups.

Despite all his success in Tshwane, however, former Zamalek boss Helmi Toulan has suggested that it his time with the Red Devils that made him the household name he is today.

"Al Ahly Club is the one who makes the names of the coaches, and the biggest example of that is the South African Pitso Mosimane, the former coach of the team," the Egyptian tactician told Radio On Sport FM.

"I agree, of course, that he took over the leadership of the Red Castle, but Al Ahly is rich in its children."
