Bafana Bafana vice captain Percy Tau is on the brink of reaching a special milestone with his club Al Ahly.

Tau's time at Al Ahly has not been without its fair share of controversy.

From the first time he signed back in 2021, there were doubts about whether the Egyptian side was the right fit for the Witbank-born player, especially given that he signed from Brighton and Hove Albion.

There were talks, as recently as this month, stating that Tau could potentially be sold by the club to defray costs, while contrasting reports have stated that he is on the brink of becoming Africa's highest paid player with his proposed new contract.

Nevertheless, Tau is closing in on a momentous 100th game in the colours of Al Ahly.

That feat could be achieved in the CAF Champions League quarter final later this month, where Al Ahly have been drawn against Tanzania's Simba.

In his 99 games for the club, Tau has contributed to 36 goals for the side, scoring 24 goals in all competitions, while setting up a further 12 goals for his teammates.

It has also been glittered with silverware as he managed to amass eight trophies in the three years with the club.

Tau was recently left out of coach Hugo Broos' Bafana squad for friendlies against Andorra and Algeria respectively.
