How Maswanganyi Inspired Pirates' Soweto Derby League Double

What's the story?

Orlando Pirates' Patrick Maswanganyi continued his rich vain of form in his side's 3-2 Soweto Derby win over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.

Maswanganyi was given the Man of the Match award for his efforts over the weekend, prompting us to look at one of the reasons why he got the award.

Pirates' driving force

Versatile attacker Patrick Maswanganyi put on a solid display in Pirates' come-from-behind win over Chiefs in an enthralling Soweto Derby encounter.

Maswanganyi may not have gotten onto the scoresheet against the Glamour Boys, but played a part in the winner as he provided the assist to Monnapule Saleng's second goal of the match.

The former SuperSport United star was a thorn in Chiefs' defence alongside youngster Relebohile Mofokeng in the first half and was one of the players who led from the front for Pirates in the second half.

After recently being selected for Bafana Bafana, Maswanganyi showed his leadership skills in the change room at half-time, with his side trailing Amakhosi 2-1, curtesy of an Ashley Du Preez brace.

He gave an impassioned speech to his teammates, urging them to have a go at Chiefs in the second-half:

Maswanganyi has been one of Pirates' brightest sparks this season, earning himself a second consecutive Soweto Derby Man of the Match accolade.

After making the switch from Matsatsantsa to Bucs before the start of this season, Maswanganyi has not only certfied his spot in Jose Riveiro's starting line-up, but has also become a fan favourite.
