Nigeria Star Iwobi: We Will Be Watching Bafana's Match

Nigeria star Alex Iwobi claims that he will be watching South Africa take on Cape Verde in their Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal.

Nigeria and Fulham star Alex Iwobi confessed that he and his teammates will be keeping a close eye on Bafana Bafana's quarter-final against Cape Verde.

The Super Eagles were the first side to book their place in the semi-finals of this year's edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

A well-worked transition by the three-time African champions saw Ademola Lookman connect on a Moses Simon cross, as one goal was enough to see the west African's beat Angola 1-0, progressing to the semi-finals for the first time since 2019.

It is there where they will face either South Africa or Cape Verde in Bouake on 7 February. The aforementioned sides will lock horns in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening and when asked whether he will be watching the game between the two, the ex-Arsenal star Iwobi said he and his compatriots would definitely be tuned in.

"Yea we'll have to watch. We have to analyse to see who we will be playing against," the forward turned midfielder admitted to Soccer Laduma.

When pressed on whether he would prefer to face perhaps one of the most in-form sides at the continental showpiece in the Blue Sharks, or the sleeping giants of African football in Bafana Bafana, Iwobi claimed it made no difference who they came up against at the Stade de la Paix.

"It doesn't matter [who we face]. If you want to win AFCON you have to play the best team so whoever we have to play we'll be ready."
