The 22-year-old has garnered a lot of attention off the back of his performances in the Spanish top flight this season.

The striker's five goals and four assists have led to rumours that Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have strong interest in buying the Bradford native permanently come the end of the campaign.

According to The Sun, however, Greenwood's current club Getafe are looking to steal a march on the aforementioned sides as they are said to be ready to pay a staggering £40 million (R946 million) to have their loanee join them in a permanent deal.

The Deep Blue Ones took a risk bringing in a forward who had been sidelined for over a year and half following his arrest for suspected sexual assault, but so far there has been a significant return on their investment, with Jose Bordalas' side currently exceeding expectations in fighting to qualify for next season's UEFA Europa League.

Getafe's current record transfer is the €11.8 million (R242 million) the club paid for Marc Cucurella in 2020, but the same report claims that they are willing to quadruple that fee, such has been Greenwood's impressive performances on the outskirts of Madrid.

United could also still change their stance regarding the England international, though, following the arrival of their new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is expected to bring in new staff on the football side.
