Parker Speaks On ‘Ill-Intent’ From Zungu Challenge

Bernard Parker uncovered his true feelings about his recent leg break from a Bongani Zungu tackle during TS Galaxy's Carling Knockout Cup win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Parker is on the road to recovery after almost a month since his career-threatening injury, with the 37-year-old also opening up about Bongani Zungu and Sundowns' apology.

It's been almost a month since Bernard Parker suffered gruesome leg break from a Bongani Zungu during TS Galaxy's upset win over Downs in the Carling Knockout Cup and the veteran let his feelings known about the injury.

Speaking to Andile Ncube on Metro FM's Sports Nights Amplified, Parker was open and honest about Zungu's career-threating challenge on him, stating there was "ill-intent" in the tackle.

Parker told Ncube that it was a build-up of emotions by Zungu that led to the challenge, saying that he analysed the situation and was able to point out the mistakes Zungu made before the incident.

"I analysed the whole situation. The first goal had happened, Bongani was involved. The second goal, he didn't follow [Mlungisi] Mbunjana when he scored, Bongani was involved. I think it was a build up of emotions from his as well," reflects Parker admitting that he's not angry about the situation.

Parker confirmed that he did receive and apology from Zungu via Instagram, with the Downs player received plenty of flack online for his reaction to being sent off for the challenge, as well as a card and flowers from Sundowns.

"I've moved on..." said Parker who added: "For me, I'm already on the next path."

"Die Hond" is confident of making a return to the pitch before the end of the season, with his contract at The Rockets expiring in June 2024.

"The doctor says I should be back either in February or March, so we'll see. I'm focusing on my recovery the best that I can, which I'm doing very very well," said Parker.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker also shared the reassurance given to him by TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi:

"My chairman at TS Galaxy said to be; 'Bernard, as long as TS Galaxy exists, you've got a place here, so what you have to do now is focus as much as you can on your recovery, then we'll see what will happen after.'"
