Pirates Fan On Facing Downs: It's Like Meeting Your Ex At A Wedding

Passionate Orlando Pirates supporters were full of confidence going into Wednesday's blockbuster clash between Jose Riveiro's men against the high-flying Mamelodi Sundowns. 

Before and after the high-profile clash, Soccer Laduma caught up with the rowdy fans to get their predictions for match and to capture their reactions after the 1-0 result in favour of the reigning DStv Premiership champs.

Mamelodi Sundowns broke Pirates' long standing home record with a narrow 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium, curtesy of a Lucas Ribeiro goal in the 11th-minute.

Sundowns were awarded a penalty after Siphelo Baloni fouled Themba Zwane in the box, giving Masandawana a narrow advantage they would comfortably hold onto until the final whistle.

To gage the confidence levels of the Pirates fans, a Soccer Laduma team outside Es'godini asked the faithful supporters for their predictions.

Here's a look at what some of the fans had to say:

"It's obvious neh, we are going to win 2-1, straight forward," said one sure Pirates fan, who added:

"That's why we travelled so far from Bloemfontein to here to support Orlando Pirates, we know it's obvious.

"Sundowns, they think they are the only team in South Africa. Not today! They don't match our standards, and the team we have now is very, very powerful and can beat each and every team in South Africa. We are going to win today, 2-1," said other Buccaneer.

"It's like meeting your ex at a wedding, you'll always have to look fly, it's always personal my brother... 3-1!" predicted a Bucs fan with a group of excited supporters, before they started chanting Cassper Nyovest's "Tito Mboweni" track.

After the game, many were licking their wounds with some complaining about the perfomance of the referee:

"I'm not happy about the game. Pirates can beat Sundowns, but you can't use Baloni and Mafokeng in a game of this calibre. There was a lot of attention on them. If he [Riveiro] tried Hotto or maybe Lorch, or even Erasmus then I would have understood," analysed a disgruntled fan:
