Pirates’ 2023/24 Season Squad Confirmed?

Orlando Pirates appear to have almost confirmed their squad for the 2023/24 season as the team's pre-season preparations concluded in Europe.  

The Soweto giants spent the week in Spain where they participated in three competitive friendly matches to prepare for the season.

As the Buccaneers finalised preparations on Tuesday for the third and last of their pre-season matches against Spanish side UD Las Palmas to be played this morning, the club's media department shared images of the players in camp as per their respective departments.

A total of 33 players appeared in the separate images.

Goalkeepers [Dubbed by Bucs as The Wall]: Siyabonga Mpontshane, Sipho Chaine, Melusi Buthelezi, Richard Ofori

Defenders [Referred to as Doomsday Defence]: Nkosinathi Sibisi, Sandile Mthethwa, Tapelo Xoki, Bandile Shandu, Ben Motshwari, Thabiso Monyane, Innocent Maela, Paseka Mako, Deon Hotto, Olisa Ndah

Midfielders [Fondly known as the Magic Makers]: Fortune Makaringe, Makhehleni Makhaula, Goodman Mosele, Kabelo Dlamini, Vincent Pule, Siphelo Baloni, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Miguel Timm, Thabang Monare, Thembinkosi Lorch

Strikers [Called The Hitmen]: Souaibou Marou, Bienvenu Eva Nga, Monnapule Saleng, Evidence Makgopa, Relebohile Ratomo, Zakhele Lepasa, Azola Matrose, Patrick Maswanganyi, Katlego Otladisa     

It should be noted that Kermit Erasmus, who had appeared in the earlier pre-season team pictures, wasn't shown in any of the new ones with the squad.

Also not appearing in any of the latest pictures, is Thabiso Sesane whom the club said the technical team was expected to make a decision on.

Pirates are scheduled to begin the new season with a trip to the Western Cape to face Stellenbosch FC on August 5 where the cup double champions will also be appearing in their new kit for the first time.
