Southgate Addresses Rashford's New York Trip After Pulling Out Of England Squad

Gareth Southgate says he has no problem with Marcus Rashford's decision to vacation in the United States after dropping out of England's squad.

England boss Gareth Southgate has finally addressed Marcus Rashford's recent trip to New York after the Manchester United star pulled out of international duty.

Rashford's Stance On New Man Utd Contract 'Revealed'

After being named in the Three Lions' squad for their 2024 UEFA European Championship qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine, the 25-year-old withdrew from the selection due to a fitness issue.

Rashford is believed to have picked up a knock in United's 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham before the international break, following a prolific run of goalscoring form after his impressive performances for England at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The forward has since been spotted on holiday in New York City in the United States, with sections of the English media appearing to highlight his holiday destination in a pointed effort to criticise Rashford.

Southgate, however, has suggested he has no issue with where unavailable players choose to spend their free time.

"Once Marcus is ruled out of the squad, it's entirely up to him how he spends his time," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.

"The players don't get a lot of breaks and I'm sure some of them will be flying off after tomorrow's game if they get 48 hours off with the schedule as it is.

"We are always linking with clubs on scans and assessments. There is also how every individual player feels, so there is a lot involved.

"I am always working with the players on what the best solution is for them. Of course, we always want the players and we always want to work with them as often as we can.

"In every squad we have, we always lose a couple. My focus then has to be on the group that are here, and how do we win the games?"
