'Don’t Be Fooled, Things Always Change In The Soweto Derby'

Kaizer Chiefs have been blowing hot and cold this season in the DStv Premiership and this weekend take on rivals Orlando Pirates in the much-anticipated Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma on the sidelines of the Soweto Derby press conference held in Midrand Johannesburg, former Amakhosi defender Siphiwe Mkhonza said that the current run of poor results for Chiefs, will pass.

Chiefs go into the derby on the back of a 3-2 loss to Golden Arrows, while Pirates beat Maritzburg United 2-1.

"This phase will pass. People should not be fooled by the recent results. Things always change in the derby and you know that we have dominated the past four derbies and we want to make it five in a row. And in all those derbies which we won, Chiefs were coming in as underdogs. It will be the same on Saturday and the results will also be the same. I can predict that Chiefs will win this one 2-0," he said.

Mkhonza added that previous results should not be taken into consideration ahead of a game of this magnitude.

"The past results don't really matter in a derby. Every team goes looking for  a win, but I know Chiefs are ready for this one. You know, form doesn't really matter. What you need to show is personality and character on the day. The players should take responsibility and know how to handle the pressure. That's what matters and that's what wins you the Soweto Derby," Mkhonza concluded.
