Chaine: What Playing For Pirates Is About

Chaine says he was aware of the prospect of stepping up so soon and explained what was going through his mind in a training camp in Cape Town leading up to the game.

"Going into that week in Cape Town, for me, it did not really start off well. I remember the first day in training, my mind was all over, I can't even explain how I was feeling," Chaine said in an interview with the club's media department.

"Going into the game mentally I'd say I was ready, but you know you're never quite ready, you'll never say this is the perfect time for me to play but going into the game just to remain focused and do what I know I can.

"And not try to complicate things just because it's your first game at a big club like Orlando Pirates you know, the expectations from everyone, the coaches, the players and most especially from the fans," he said.

"I just went into it trying to prove myself right, because it's not really about what everyone says about you, it's about how I tell myself that I can and I belong here."

The Bloemfontein native shot-stopper went on to say that he had mixed feelings on his debut after City came back from a goal down to win 2-1.

"And now it's the chance for me to show myself that you really can and it was not really easy. Going into the game we started the first half very (well) and it felt really nice, with the fans, the experience was really nice," he continued.

"Then second half we end up losing the game. You don't prepare for such moments as a player, when things start off good in a game and as the game goes on it goes south.

"But really I believe it's one of the good games I've played, though we lost but generally I played a good game and was happy with myself. You can't be happy after losing a game but looking back it was really a good experience," he added.
