Dani Alves Moved To Different Prison For 'His Own Protection'

Former Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has reportedly been moved to a different jailhouse for "his own protection" after being arrested for alleged sexual assault.

Xavi Apologises After Dani Alves Arrest Comments

Last week Friday, the 40-year-old Brazilian was detained and sent to prison without bail until the completion of the trial, for which no date has been set as yet.

A woman has accused Alves of sexual assault in a Barcelona nightclub on 30 December, with Mexican club UNAM Pumas terminating his contract in light of the serious allegations football's most decorated player is facing.

The Selecao international is reportedly being kept behind bars as the judge deemed he could be a flight risk considering his wealth and status in the world of sport.

Marca has now reported that Alves has been moved from Brians 1 prison in Barcelona to Brians 2, a smaller facility that should be more suitable for a high-profile inmate such as the ex-Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus man.

It is believed the footballer has been moved to protect him, as well as to prevent the former Catalan club player from potential self-harm.

Alves is widely considered among the greatest right-backs the game has ever seen, particularly for his eight successful years spent at Barcelona between 2008 and 2016.
