New reports suggest that Barcelona are keeping a close eye on one of Real Madrid's stars as they are interested in taking him to the Camp Nou.
Report: Chelsea Eyeing Lukaku-Kane Swap Deal
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana are paying close attention to Marco Asensio's situation at Real. The 26-year-old Spain international has just under 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Xavi Hernandez is reportedly an admirer of his talents and tactical adaptability, and given his age, Barca believe there is still more to come from the attacker.
Even after the failed transfer of Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema's recent injury, the scintillating form of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Federico Valverde has seen Asensio fall further down in the attacking pecking order at Los Blancos.
It was reported that he was very close to leaving the Spanish capital in the past transfer window, with Serie A champions AC Milan and Premier League sides Newcastle United and Arsenal heavily linked with the forward's services, but with just under a year remaining on his contract, the January window will present the last opportunity for the 14-time European champions to recoup funds from the Spaniard's sale.
'Plan For Man Utd Takeover Moving Forward'
If Real refuse to extend Asensio's deal, he will be free to negotiate with any club from January onwards.
Barca have been maximising the market by buying signing free agents where possible and it seems they may do the same with Asensio as Joan Laporta looks to take advantage of the good relationship he has with the winger's agent Jorge Mendes.
Should Asensio make his way to Catalonia, he will join an illustrious list of players to have donned both Real and Barca's jerseys.
