How Zwane's Leadership Was Tested...

Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has won over the hearts of the clubs fans with a brace against SuperSport United but, had to endure discontent from the crowd.

Chiefs beat SuperSport 2-1 on Saturday to easy the pressure on head coach Arthur Zwane and his charges.

Matsatsantsa took an early lead, thanks to Grant Margeman and some section of supporters grew frustrated and jeered Bimenyimana after he missed a few chances before finding the equalizer and ultimately the winner.

Zwane explained how he kept on encouraging the Burundian on the bench, as the crowd began to turn on the Amakhosi newbie.

"To be a coach you have to be a leader and you have to believe in your players. They know that I believe in them. In many ways, football is a game of mistakes," Zwane said in the post-match press conference after the game.

"Every player makes mistakes and I always remind them not to focus on their mistakes but rather focus on the good things that can get the best out of them.

"That's why I encouraged him because when a player out on the field looks at the bench and sees that maybe I doubt his ability that will kill his confidence as well, so I have to lift him up."

Zwane also described the qualities that Bimenyimana brings to the team and is confident that they made the right decision to bring him on board after they took their time before confirming his signing.

"Caleb is giving us a different dimension. He is very quick and explosive to attack the near post," he said.

"We need that type of striker and that's why we had to take our time in terms of bringing someone in and make sure that when we brought him in we had to complement him so he can fit into the way we play," he added.

Soccer Laduma looks at other key moments where Zwane's leadership qualities were tested:

Bringing back Khune

Goalkeepers Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma were not consistent in their performances early in the season and supporters wanted veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune back.

Zwane obliged in the MTN8 quarterfinals against Stellenbosch and Khune has rewarded the faith shown in him by bringing back stability and calm at back.

Ngezana situation

Ngezana made costly errors, particularly against Mamelodi Sundowns and Zwane immediately excluded the player in the next game against Richards Bay.

'10111' gave Ngezana the benefit of the doubt against Cape Town City but after the criticism of a three-man defence system and the academy graduate's performances, he eventually left him out of the recent line-ups.

Dropping Dolly from the team

Dolly is one of the big-name players at Chiefs and after below par performances by his standards, Zwane did not hesitate to drop him to the bench in a goalless draw against AmaZulu and again in a big clash against SuperSport.
