This weekend sees an interesting fixture. Last time Orlando Pirates met Mamelodi Sundowns, the Brazilians breezed past them like a knife through butter.
At that time the Ghost was limping, however, it is now sprinting, with a dangerous Tendai Ndoro leading the kill. The game itself will be interesting; more interesting, however, will be the implication of the game. What is best for South Africa?
One of our supporters, part of the Yellow Nation and also intensely patriotic, described the dilemma he faces going into this weekend’s fixture.
“I’m really caught between two things I like; I want the best for my team, Downs, and I also want Pirates to fly SA’s flag high next season. For them to achieve that, they have to beat Downs and claim Nedbank. Eish.” – Raf#7.
This refers to two things, firstly, the winner of the Nedbank Cup will embark on the African Safari next year and attempt to gain continental glory for South Africa. Secondly, Orlando Pirates is the only team people back to accomplish this feat, even non-Buccaneer fans.
Who will win this weekend's fixture? Is it a blessing or a curse to qualify for African competition? Which team would do better in CAF?
