Mamelodi Sundowns are preparing themselves for a big pay day, with the FIFA Club World Cup coming up in a few months, but it's significantly lower than their European and South American counterparts.

A total of 32 clubs will take part in the competition from all the continents, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the round of 16.

Africa will be represented by four clubs, Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Mamelodi Sundowns and Esperance. Each African club competing in the competition will received $9.55 million (R185 million). They can earn a further $7.5 million if they reach the last 16.

South American clubs competing in the competition will receive $15.21 million, with European clubs set to get between $12.81 to $38.19 million. The appearance fee that the clubs are getting is determined by rankings on sporting and commercial criteria.

This is over a period of four years, with teams earning points for wins, draws, and progress in their confederation's premier competition. Commercial criteria also play a role in prize money distribution. Commercially, clubs in Europe are ranked higher, which is why they are expected to get more in appearance fees money going into the tournament.

The money Sundowns are set to get is expected to be reinvested in the club, and their dominance of South African football could go to another level. With the amount of money they are set to receive in the coming months, Sundowns are expected to bring in more quality from outside the country as they look to compete with the best and conquer Africa.
