The Carling Knockout took centre stage this past weekend, with Magesi FC continuing with their fine form as they eliminated last season's runners-up, TS Galaxy from the tournament, courtesy of a 1-0 win after 90 minutes. The newly promoted side, coached by Clinton Larsen, will be visiting Richards Bay FC in the semi-finals.
The Natal Rich Boys beat Cape Town City, who were expected to progress further into the tournament, 5-4 after a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time. Coach Brando Truter will be salivating at the prospect of meeting Magesi FC in the semi-finals in what should be a tricky affair as both teams will be looking to secure a spot in their first cup final.
Marumo Gallants beat defending champions, Stellenbosch FC, 1-0 to end their hopes of defending their title won last season. Gallants will be meeting Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals. Coach Dan Malesela is no stranger to winning trophies as he did exactly that when he led TS Galaxy to their only cup success when they beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the final of the Nedbank Cup.
Sundowns beat Chiefs 4-0 to book their spot in the semi-finals in a pulsating quarter-final clash that took place at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening. The Brazilians will be visiting Gallants at the Toyota Stadium in the semi-finals.
