Amajita secured the bronze medal at the 2019 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Nigeria on penalties on Saturday evening.
Nigeria were on the front foot early on and nearly snatched the lead in the tenth minute with looping volley from Jamil Muhammad that sailed over the bar.
Amajita were inviting Nigeria in their own half by defending deep and were nearly punished in the 32nd minute after Effiom Michael was given space to turn inside the box, but he fluffed his chance after falling down in the crucial moment.
Paul Aigbogun's charges were really dominant throughout the opening half, while South African failed to mount any serious attempts at the Nigeria goal.
Thabo Senong's troops came out of their defensive shell in the early stages of the second stanza but looked vulnerable when out of position, as Paschal Durugbor almost broke the deadlock for Nigeria on the hour-mark with an overhead kick that was smothered by Amajita goalkeeper Khulekani Kubheka.
Senong responded with his first change three minutes later as Promise Mkhuma came on for Bayanda Shangase.
South Africa were nearly punished 19 minutes before time as Kubheka spilled a cross inside the box following a corner, but Nazifi Yahaya could not find the target for the Flying Eagles from close range.
However, Senong's troops managed to see out the remaining stages of the second half as Nigeria pushed for a winning goal, forcing the game into a penalty shoot-out.
The South Africans managed to hold their nerve to triumph 5-3 in the shoot-out, with Siphesihle Mkhize converting the winning penalty see his nation claim the bronze medal.
