Mamelodi Sundowns appear to be an unstoppable force at the moment. The South African football world is shaking in their boots at the sight of the Yellow Train. This dominance is not just in the PSL though; they aim to run the whole show…
It is easy to see that Sundowns are not in the PSL to make up numbers. After just 11 games they lie at fifth on the log. They have scored more goals in 11 games than Golden Arrows have in 17 games. Sundowns have a difficult task at hand with six games to catch up, but it seems they are equal to the task.
So to are their reserve side. The MDC was in full swing this weekend too and Sundowns made sure that they inched closer to that title too with a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs. It was a good weekend to be from Pretoria, and a bad weekend to be from Soweto.
Sundowns now sit at the top of the MDC standings. Their coach, David Notoane, took some time out to explain how unified the philosophy of the team is.
"I am happy that we got the win today. We have a few injuries in the squad but we need to keep going. If you want to be a champion, you have to do it against all odds. We cannot be making excuses."
Furthermore, Downs' MDC mentor took time out to heap individual praise on a bright prospect:
"We planned very well for them. We have a boy named Keletso Makgala, he is an exceptional player who is able to create space for his teammates when he runs at the defence. That is why (Samuel) Julies was able to score."
While some teams have drastically different fortunes in the PSL and MDC, such as SuperSport United who lie second from the bottom in the MDC and third from the top in the PSL, it seems Sundowns view it as important to thrive in both leagues.
Do you think its important for clubs to focus on thriving in the PSL and MDC?
