'It Will Be Easy' For Chiefs To Sign Sundowns Defender

After reportedly failing to sign Mamelodi Sundowns' left-back Terrence Mashego during the January transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be planning another attempt in the winter.

Sources close to both the player and Amakhosi have indicated that Mashego could become a free agent at the end of the season, potentially easing Chiefs' efforts to secure the South African defender.

Insiders added that initial talks broke down before the close of the January window due to financial constraints.

"They haven't given up on him. Apparently they had to prioritise other signings which they felt were more important in the January transfer window period but they are believed to want to pursue the move again at the end of the season. From their point of view, they still need a left back like him and they are just waiting for the end of the season to make another move for Mashego.  So, they haven't given up on him despite failing to sign him in January," the Siya source stated.

A second insider noted that Chiefs might sign the former Cape Town City left-back, Mashego as a free agent when his contract with Sundowns expires.

"His initial contract with Sundowns expires at the end of the season. Actually it's on the 30th of June and although the club has a one-year option, there is nothing happening between the player and the club which could mean he could be a free agent at the end of the season and that could mean Chiefs would sign him for free without discussing the transfer fee with Sundowns. It's believed that the fee (reportedly less than R10 million) that Sundowns demanded was the stumbling block in January. So if he is a free agent at the end of the season then it will be easy for Chiefs to sign him," the second insider stated.

This season, the 28-year-old has only played a few Betway Premiership games for the Brazilians.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Chiefs for comment but received no response at the time of publication.
