Furman's return to South Africa has been speculated for a while now since his decision to leave Doncaster Rovers, though both he and his South African representative, Glyn Binkin, have been adamant that his first choice was to remain in Europe.
The 26-year-old turned down a new contract at Rovers saying that he wanted to go in search of Championship football in the UK, however, following an unsuccessful trial with Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers, it seemed that his options were decreasing and he spent some time training with League One side, Bury.
Now, with the English and South African football seasons having both gotten underway, it appears that the midfield man has reassessed his options and decided that a return to Mzansi is a genuine option for him.
Speaking to the Siya crew today, Matthews said, "Discussions with Dean have been going on for some time now, and while he has a few irons in the fire overseas still, I feel that I've put a very compelling offer to him.
"The ball is now in Dean's court and we'll resume talks next week."
