African Nations Championship
Teams: Congo DR v Mauritania
Date: 14 January 2014
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
The first game of Group D in the CAF African Nations Championship will see Congo DR taking on Mauritania at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday.
The clash will match up former winners of the tournament against first time debutants.
DRC won the inaugural CHAN tournament in Ivory Coast in 2009 and are planning to mount a serious challenge for the 2014 crown.
DRC were one of the first teams to arrive in South Africa in preparation for the tournament, arriving in December last year, and they will be expecting to pick up all three points against the first opposition.
For Mauritania, it is their first time at CHAN and it marks an important time in their country's football as they look to compete with the powerhouses of Africa.
Mauritania have shown fine form on their way to CHAN, losing only one of their four qualifiers en-route to South Africa.
Coach Patrice Neveu has largely been credited with their turn around in fortunate as he has them playing an exciting brand of football.
