Siyabonga Nomvethe Is Retiring From Professional Football

Siyabonga Nomvethe

AmaZulu have sent a farewell message to Siyabonga 'Bhele' Nomvethe as the team finalises its preparations for the last home match of the season, which will be against Black Leopards at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

In September, it was announced by the Durban-based club that Nomvethe would be retiring at the end of last year.

However, the decision was changed in January to say that the 41-year-old would finish the 2018/19 season still part of coach Cavin Johnson's squad at Usuthu.

AmaZulu confirmed at the time:

Nomvethe has been with Usuthu since January of 2016. Following a career spanning over two decades, and having played for some of the top clubs locally and abroad, including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, as well as Udinese in Italy, the KwaMashu-born forward is expected to officially hang up his boots at the end of season.

With AmaZulu having one last home match for the season against Leopards, before having to travel to the Dr Molemela Stadium for their last match of the season against Bloemfontein Celtic on May 11, a message of appreciation has been sent to the legendary Nomvethe from the club.

Nomvethe has played seven Absa Premiership matches for Usuthu this season, making one start and coming on as a substitute six times.

The veteran has had a professional career of more than 20 years, from when he started out at African Wanderers in 1997, and has scored 123 goals.

Bhele scored 16 times in 78 appearances for Bafana Bafana.
