PSL players and officials are covered for injuries and untimely death in the insurance for the league.
Meyiwa, who was a goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana at the time of his passing, was gunned down at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo's mother's house in Vosloorus, during a reported robbery on 26 October 2014.
On Thursday last week, during a press conference for Pirates where it was announced that Siyabonga Sangweni has retired from professional football, the club's chairman stated that the league would be communicating with Meyiwa's family with the hope to close the chapter about the insurance pay-out.
The announcement about the insurance pay-out to the Meyiwa family was made during a press conference at the PSL's headquarters in Parktown this morning.
