Amajita head coach, Thabo Senong is confident of the preparations his side have undergone ahead of the African Youth Championships, scheduled for Senegal.

The U20 side lost 1-0 to a Nelson Mandela Bay Invitational squad on Thursday, February 19 at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and are expected to play their final competitive farewell fixture against Chippa United U19's on Sunday February, 22, before heading back to Johannesburg.

"The preparations are going well. We had three training sessions and a practice match against a local select side," stated Senong in South African Football Association press release.

"The match was very good. The opposition was physically strong and a very experienced group of players. We were happy with the performance of our players especially in the first half."

"We are happy that we have identified the possible squad to take to Senegal, and it does not mean other players are not good enough but it is more about experience and mental toughness to play this international tournament," added the Amajita mentor who is expected to trim his squad to the final 21.

Amajita are in Group B with Ghana, Mali and Zambia.

Among the concern he raised was the ability to score goals.

"Our ability to score goals, our tactical behaviour in the final third is very important to finish off the chances we are creating and to make sure we don't concede goals and be organised when we are defending set plays that will be very important," he concluded.
