SAFA and Motsepe Foundation renew ABC Mostepe League partnership

The South African Football Association's (SAFA) has renewed its partnership with the Motsepe Foundation for the sponsorship of the ABC Motsepe League. 

The sponsorship for the league has been extended for an additional five years. 

In an announcement made at SAFA's headquarters in Nasrec South of Johannesburg, the first order of business for the renewed partnership will be the managing of the 2018 ABC Motsepe League National Play-Offs.

According to SAFA's website, the week-long tournament will be held at Turfloop University Fields in Polokwane, Limpopo from 4 to 9 June 2018.

The ABC Motsepe League will see the winners pocket R1 million in prize money over and above gaining promotion to the National First Division. The allocation of the prize money will result in an amount of eight hundred thousand rand (R800 000.00), with an additional two hundred thousand rand (R200 000.00) to be used for the development of a youth football project chosen for by the winner in consultation with both SAFA and the Motsepe Foundation.

SAFA's website also confirmed that the runners-up will also play in the NFD and pocket R500 000.00 with R100 000.00 to be applied for the development of a youth football project chosen. 

The teams taking part this year are Umvoti FC (KwaZulu Natal); Maccabi FC (Gauteng); Dolphins FC (Limpopo); Tornado FC (Eastern Cape); Steenbeek United (Western Cape); Buya Msuthu (North West); (Free State); (Mpumalanga) and (Northern Cape).

SAFA also went on to reveal that the three unnamed teams are still locked in disputes in their provinces, but the matters are expected to be finalised before the commencement of the play-offs.

Group stages will take place over three days from 4 to 6 June, with the semi-finals scheduled for 7 June. The final will be staged on Saturday, 9 June 2018 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium and scheduled for 13h00.
